Trivia

Napoleon was born speaking Corsican and learned Italian as the official language of Corsica. At age 10, he started learning French in school and eventually became fluent, though he retained a Corsican accent and struggled with French spelling.

He was so recognizable that even the mere shadow of his hat was enough to identify him. The distinctive style of the cocked hat became synonymous with Napoleon's legend.

Evidenced by his writing of a romance novel, "Clisson et Eugenie", written in 1795, details his relationship with Desiree Clary and was published in 1920.

He also had a fear of open doors, requiring anyone entering his room to close the door tightly after passing through a narrow opening.

It is said that before the battle of Austerlitz, he slept deeply and barely woke up. At the critical moment of the Wagram battle, he took a 20-minute nap and resumed giving orders upon waking as if uninterrupted.
